In the heyday of Internet excitement (1999), BioSample, Inc. of Boca Raton, Florida, developed an innovative Internet-based e-commerce business exchange.   This online database gathered and managed the world's largest online inventory of blood, tissue and other biomedical research samples for the the clinical research community.

The custom-built database for this site was searchable on 18 different parameters.  The database approximately 1.5 million records and information on approximately 250,000 biomedical samples.  This online database received a US government patent in 2002, but by this time the company had run into a number of difficulties.  The corporate name was later acquired by another firm and the online exchange operations were then discontinued.
